Wow!!! Scottish Holiday 2016

Well that made a change!!
Just been away with my lovely husband to Scotland.  We had a wonderful time and WOW, WOW, WOW! I don't think I have ever seen such amazing scenery.

We started by flying to Edinburgh, where we stayed for 2 nights, enjoying mooching around the old town.  Spent most of 1 day exploring the castle!  We had a fantastic meal on the first night in a pub in the old town.  The Ensign Ewart I think it was called.  Very close to the castle.  We chose the special, 2 venison casseroles and a bottle of wine for £30.  Very tasty and I don't think I had had vennison before.

After exploring the town, on the 2nd night we ended up at good old Pizza Hut.  Had tried to find somewhere a liitle more Scottish but we had left it too late and Ensign Ewart was hard to follow.

From Edinburgh we made our way further north, calling at St. Andrews to take a few photos, buy a couple of souvenirs for our golfer son and stop off for a quick cuppa tea and a slice a cake!

Finally arriving at our next location which was in Keith.  Our bed and breakfast for the next 2 nights was a brilliant choice, thanks to booking.com.  We found Brambleburn steading in a most idilillic setting.

A  wonderful hostess greeted us on arrival with a free drink and a guided tour of our room and facilities.   The bedroom, aswell as having an onsuite, was equipped with a large dressing room.  Such a peaceful location!  A good night sleep was easy :)  Followed by a slendid breakfast delivered to our room at a time of
of our choice.

After devowering a selection from the breakfast trolley we adjourned to the patio to soak up the peace and tranquility of the setting.  Blissful!!

An adventure now began with our tour guides Lu and Pete (family) who kindly gave us the grand tour of the Cairngorms.  Such wonderful surroundings they have chosen to settle in.  Who can blame them!

Following another hearty breakfast at the Brambleburn steading, we made our way west past Inverness and Loch Ness.  This is where the views became exciting, as the rolling mountains changed to a more rugged range.  The deep dark loches and powerful waterfalls adding to the awesome views.

We approached our next destination, greeted by the immense figure of Ben Nevis, towering over us as we drove towards Fort William. Another lucky choice if guest house!  Just outside the centre of Fort William,  over looking another picturesque Loche.
Avery pretty guest house, with comfortable room and another splendid breakfast.

We spent a couple of days exploring the countryside around Fort William, and towards Mallaig, stopping off at the Glenfinnan monument.

We had a lovely meal next to Neptunes staircase.

On leaving Fort William, we started to make our way to our final destination.  We travelled through  beautiful Glencoe and stopped off for a photo opportunity in Achallader.

Passing Loch Lomond and reaching Stirling for our last night.

After a quick wander around the streets of Stirling, followed by my first plate of Haggis, Neeps & Tatties, we settled into our b&b and headed home via Edinburgh airport the following day.

I have promised myself I will return 1 day to explore more of the West Highlands.
